Netherlands Extends Patriot Mission in Poland Guarding Ukraine Aid Route
The deployment at Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport in southeastern Poland had been scheduled to conclude in early June, but NATO and Polish officials requested that the mission continue.
Situated fewer than 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the Ukrainian border, the airport plays a central role in the transfer of Western military assistance heading into Ukraine.
“This decision underlines our support for Ukraine and shows that the Netherlands stands ready when NATO and allies call on us,” Dutch Defense Minister Dilan Yesilgoz-Zegerius said.
The operation forms part of NATO’s rotating air defense arrangements, under which alliance members periodically assume responsibility for protecting the strategic facility.
The Dutch contingent assumed the mission from Germany in December 2025 and deployed an expanded defense package that includes Patriot batteries, NASAMS missile systems and equipment designed to counter drone threats.
